The Cybersecurity Workshop – “Think Cybersecurity Is Just Hacking?” was successfully conducted by the CSE Department, DPG Institute of Technology and Management, in collaboration with CRAC Learning, on 16 September 2026.
Held as the third CRAC Cybersecurity Workshop under the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC‑DPGITM), the session ran from 11:00 AM onwards at the Cybersecurity Excellence Center, Lab 108, Block A, for 30 students of the BCA and Computer Science and Engineering departments with a keen interest in cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
It was held in the presence of Dr. Sarika Chaudhary, Dean Academics, Dr. Simpi Mehta, Head of Department, and Dr. Poonam Sharma, Associate Professor CSE‑AIML/DS. The resource persons were Mr. Moksh Gupta and Mr. Gitesh of CRAC Learning Foundation.
The session set out to give students practical exposure to cybersecurity through an industry-oriented approach — introducing real-world concepts such as web security, OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence) and system vulnerabilities, showing how modern web applications work and where security flaws can exist, and building analytical and problem-solving skills through hands-on packet analysis and live challenges.
The workshop provided students with valuable insights into cybersecurity, real-world applications, hands-on learning, and career opportunities in the field.
How the Session Unfolded
- Introduction to cybersecurity concepts — an overview of cybersecurity and its significance in today’s digital world, the fundamentals of web security and OSINT, and why identifying vulnerabilities and securing systems matters.
- Web security and cyber defence — the HTTP and HTTPS protocols and their role in secure communication, and common vulnerabilities such as broken access control and how attackers exploit them, explained through real-world examples.
- Hands-on learning with Wireshark — a live demonstration of capturing network packets, with students learning to analyse packet data and understand the communication between systems.
- Capture The Flag (CTF) competition — a competitive CTF challenge on the Defhawk platform, where students applied what they had learned to solve cybersecurity problems, working on teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving in real time.
Outcomes
- Enhanced students’ understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals and web security concepts
- Provided hands-on experience with tools like Wireshark for network analysis
- Developed analytical and problem-solving skills through practical exercises
- Encouraged active participation through the CTF competition
- Motivated students to explore cybersecurity as a potential career path
