Date: 25th September 2024
Location: DPG Institute of Technology and Management (DPGITM)
Organized by: Department of Civil Engineering
Sponsored by: CADD Centre, Sector 14, Gurugram
Facilitator: Mr. Mohan, Expert in Structural Analysis and Design Software
On 25th September 2024, the Department of Civil Engineering at DPG Institute of Technology and Management (DPGITM) hosted a one-day workshop focused on STAAD Pro, a premier software in structural analysis and design. Sponsored by the CADD Centre in Gurugram, the workshop aimed to provide students with practical insights and hands-on experience with STAAD Pro, which is essential for contemporary civil engineering projects.
Workshop Overview
Objectives
The primary goals of the workshop were to:
- Introduce students to STAAD Pro and its applications in structural engineering.
- Enhance students’ practical skills in using STAAD Pro for real-world engineering scenarios.
- Highlight the significance of structural analysis in the design of buildings, bridges, and towers.
Keynote Presentation
The workshop commenced with an engaging introduction by Mr. Mohan. He outlined the critical role of structural analysis in civil engineering, explaining how STAAD Pro has transformed traditional engineering practices. Mr. Mohan emphasized that effective structural analysis not only ensures the safety and durability of structures but also optimizes design efficiency.
Workshop Activities
Following the introductory session, the workshop was divided into theoretical and practical segments:
Theoretical Session
In this part, Mr. Mohan covered the following topics:
- Overview of structural analysis concepts.
- Introduction to the STAAD Pro interface and functionalities.
- Key features of STAAD Pro, including load definitions, analysis types, and design checks.
Practical Session
The practical session involved hands-on training, where students engaged directly with the STAAD Pro software. Under Mr. Mohan’s guidance, students:
- Set up basic structural models.
- Defined loads and analyzed structures.
- Interpreted results and generated reports.
Students actively participated, asking questions and sharing insights, which fostered a collaborative learning environment.
Feedback and Conclusion
At the end of the workshop, participants expressed their appreciation for the practical knowledge gained. Feedback highlighted the effectiveness of Mr. Mohan’s teaching style and the relevance of the workshop content to their academic and future professional endeavors’.
In conclusion, the STAAD Pro workshop successfully met its objectives, equipping students with essential skills for their careers in civil engineering. The Department of Civil Engineering at DPGITM remains committed to organizing such events to enhance the educational experience and prepare students for industry challenges.
